I can not believe Thanksgiving is this week! I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with wine my family, eating all the yumminess #ChefAdrian cooked and relaxing a bit before all the Holiday madness begins! While I tried to convince my family to let us host, I know there are many of you out there hosting for the first time! Congrats– it’s a real special event. There are a few tips I’ve picked up from all the hosting mothers in my life and thought it would be great to gather them here so you can set up with ease!

1. So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

Not that I have to even mention it, but a clean home is a happy home. And with a nice deep scrubbing, you and your guests will appreciate the extra sparkle and shine (that is your house, of course). Even just straightening up the pillows on your couch, hiding all the laundry (thats me!) or doing a light dusting will make all the difference. My mom always said, if you ever have guests over, at the very least, clean the bathroom!

2. Personal Touches to Break The Ice

If you have family coming over that you might not have seen for a while, I would recommend framing or updating some pictures around your house to include some favorite family memories! It will get family to open up more, start a conversation and share stories from the past. There are so many creative ways you can do this if you don’t want to frame them! Maybe make a statement piece on a wall? This will be a sure way to make folks more comfortable and keep the conversation flowing.

3. For The Bar

Besides all the delicious wine I’m sure guests will bring, look into what some of your guests favorite cocktails or liquor would be and include that in your shopping cart. It’s never great to come over and not have your drink of choice on a special occasion! From different Whiskeys or Bourbons to Tequila and Gin, it’s will end up being a thoughtful touch. And hey, great way to expand your bar offerings!

4. Decorating and Tablescapes

Candles, candles, candles! I cant say it enough! Even if you’re not into the whole creative tablescape, candles bring energy, light and festivity to any room. Not to mention all the amazing scents for Fall! DW Home candles are sure to please with their sultry scents and amazing label designs. Another tip is to keep it simple and only decorate with items or festive flare that is truly you. It will go a long way with your guests and your budget.

5. Cozy Nooks

After a long, warm, filling dinner, invite guests to stay, digest and continue a cocktail (or 2!) in different areas of your home. We always gathered near a fireplace after dinner to stay warm and continue our conversations. Dessert can be served at this time, but make sure everyone is comfortable in little cozy nooks set up for duel conversations or family family downtime. A quick rearranging of furniture to ensure everyone has a place to relax, is all it takes!

Dont stress, this is family time and you got this! Enjoy all the downtime with loved ones and I hope you have the most amazing Thanksgiving!
