If we were going out and hitting the town for NYE this year, I know exactly what I would wear and what to consider first before it all comes together. If you are, here are some great options to stay warm, comfortable and totally stylish in!

But first, some quick tricks of the trade. When putting together your outfit for NYE (or any outfit for a specific occasion, for that matter), I always consider these tips first before pulling the trigger on specific styles/trends or purchasing something new, especially.

Venue

Above all else, it’s best to dress appropriately for where you’ll be dancing the night away. Is it black tie? Cocktail? Themed? If you purchased a ticket to somewhere, it will most likely have that information on there or be communicated ahead of time. I do tend air on the side of dressing up more so then down, just in case.

Weather

While you can never really predict Mother Nature these days, think about the time of year, location, indoor or outdoor options before pulling a look. Will you have to walk outside to get somewhere? Is there coat check? Are you on a beach and this doesn’t even matter? For rain or snow in particular, in addition to your outfit, how you get there and how to prepare for the weather is important to get right sooner rather than later.

Comfort

This seems obvious, but when looking for pieces that are appropriate for the location, weather approved, and something that is more or less unique for a late night party– it has to be comfortable. And if you’re a dancer, this is a total must! Consider a jumpsuit (top and bottom, done!), platform or low kitten heels and an updo for maximum movability that will keep you pain free all night (and morning) long.

Essentials

What do you absolutely need for your night out? I would shy away from a large tote with all the stuff for this event. Chances are higher for stolen anything while mingling with crowds of strangers (I guess this can be the case anytime, anywhere!) so opt for a smaller, wristlet or purse that has a crossbody strap if you must bring a bag.

Outfit Options for This Year

Since we’ve moved, I felt we’ve been playing catch up to all the Holidays and events in town so when it came to planning anything for New Years Eve, we definitely dropped the ball (pun intended!). So, we’ll be staying in, playing games and probably doing jumping jacks every hour to stay awake for 2019. Which, do be honest, really does sound like the best time given its the beginning of the week!

However, if we were going to be painting the town red this year, velvet anything would be my first choice. The heavy, luxe material has had its time in the limelight this year and I’m alllll about it. Given it’s paring to upscale, celebrity events, dresses, pant suits and long blazers are now quite easy to find. Whether you’re all in for a head to toe jewel tone suit or just need a slight in a slinky slip dress, here are some amazing finds to give you inspiration or purchase for your event!
