Sofie loves to be out and about as much as we do in the summer (along with all Chicagoans!), but as we bop around for a few drinks we always found it a little tough to bring her along, even for prime patio seating. So! I’ve put together our top delicious picks to bring your pooch this summer– you may even get some free bacon or dog treats!

1. Four Corners Tavern Group

All of their locations with patios are dog friendly! Not to mention, offer dog-friendly menus that include carrots, chicken breast or mini sliders. Also, if you snap a picture with your dog on the patio and post it on Instagram with the #4CPatioPuppies, you could win a $100 gift card to any Four Corners Tavern Group bar.

2. Big Star

One of my favorite places to grab some tacos, whiskey and sunshine is the 80-seater patio at Big Star. Meet up with tons of fun Chicagoans and their pups– but get there early! Seating goes quickly when the weather is prime. Water bowls are provided and don’t forget to use their hashtag #dogsofbigstar to be featured in their Instagram!

3. Crosby’s Kitchen

The Southport Corridor has almost transformed overnight. It’s beautiful array of large and small shops is a fun area to explore. Crosby’s Kitchen is situated right on the corner of it and has a great little patio to enjoy great food and cocktails.

4. Expat

A light, simple, totally unfussy menu designed for outdoor dining and drinking. Think oysters, crudo, raw veggies, and salads, plus a focused menu of rosé, cocktails and shot-and-a-back pairings. And of course, there are the boozy sno-cones and push-pops. It’s summer, after all. Don’t overthink things. Grab your pup and head on over!

5. Freestyle Food + Drink

Utilizing fresh, sustainable ingredients, Freestyle creates American tastes with a global twist. With their State Street patio now open, al fresco dining is a great way to take in the sights.

6. Howells + Hood

Who new dogs were allowed on this massive patio in River North? With 360 beers on tap, they have the largest craft beer selection in Chicago. Grab a brew and your best bud for a comfy day or night outside.

7. Mash Craft Kitchen + Patio

Formally known as Bad Dog Tavern, MASH Kitchen has maintained its dog appeal on the patio offering plenty of treats and water for all dogs. This is one of my favorite places to grab a beer cocktail in the city!

8. DryHop Brewers

Grab a growler and a seat on the patio with your pup and enjoy sipping amongst other Lakeviewers in the area. With an ever changing menu, it’s a great craft spot that offers a variety of great brews and foods!

9. Nico Osteria

One of the largest and most trendy spots right now, the wrap-around patio dining areas have some of the best River North people watching. Authentic Italian fare and beautifully crafted cocktails adorn the menu (you must try the whole fish) and is perfectly attached to the Thompson Hotel, also dog-friendly. So if you’re looking to sip, stay and chow, look no further.

10. The Dock at Montrose

Naturally, Montrose beach is the largest dog beach in Chicago and with it’s newest addition, The Dock, its a great spot for weekend picnics on the beach with your pooch or evening bites along the water. Honestly, I love their guac and chips– and don’t forget to grab a side of carrots for your pup!

11. Parson’s Chicken and Fish

Oooooh I love me some Parson’s! A now Logan Square staple, get here early, stay late and take in the delicious crispy chicken and/or fish options along side your best bud. Perfectly shaded, it’s a great spot to escape the heat.
