#ChefAdrian and I have been playing with all our fun bar accessories and spending more time crafting the perfect cocktails on the weekends (ahem, Friday nights, specifically). One we’ve recently developed involves some of our favorite warm weather ingredients–sweet tea, lemonade and bourbon. Known also as the Tipsy Palmer, the developing aspect came in when we made all our ingredients fresh.

Paired perfectly with a warm, starry night and drinks best in a mason jar, this breezy cocktail will send you sailing in to summer.

We committed to making all ingredients fresh, but store-bought items works beautifully too!

Sweet Tea

  • 3 family-sized black tea bags (or 12 individual tea bags)
  • 4 cups water, plus more to fill the pitcher
  • 1 cup sugar

  1. In a medium sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boilRemove from heat.
  2. Steep the tea for 5 minutes. Dunk the tea bags a few times in the water to fully hydrate, then leave submerged with the strings hanging over the side of the pot. After 5 minutes, remove the bags and discard.
  3. Add the sugar to the tea. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Pour the tea base into the pitcher. If using multiple pitchers, divide the tea evenly between them.
  5. Top off the pitchers with water. Add another 3 quarts of water to make a gallon of sweet tea.
  6. Refrigerate until very cold. Chill for at least 4 hours or, ideally, overnight.

  • 3 cups fresh lemon juice (about 20 lemons)
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 12 cups water

  1. In a large pot, bring 12 cups of water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until completely dissolved. Set aside.
  3. In a separate medium sized bowl, slice lemons in half and squeeze lemons to extract the juice.
  4. Combine juice and sugar in a one-gallon container.
  5. Refrigerate until very cold. Chill for at least 4 hours or, ideally, overnight.

Sweet Tipsy Palmer Cocktail

Serves 4

  1. In your large pitcher, combine 3 cups of Lemonade and 3 cups of Sweet Tea.
  2. Squeeze in 4 lime wedges and stir into pitcher.
  3. In your Mason Jars, add ice, 2 shots Bourbon and pour in Lemonade and Sweet Tea from pitcher.
  4. Add 1 lime wedge to each for garnish.

The real special touch here is definitely all our freshly handmade ingredients but also the sour-sweet punch of the lime. It gives it an unexpected added zest!

Planning a brunch with the girls? Substitute the Bourbon for Champaign for a fizzy, fresh rendition.

Clink, clink!
