Summer is upon us! The sun is shining and all I want to do is hang out on our deck and drink ice cold Kim Crawford. Through my spring cleaning, I finally made it to our deck space that has looked exactly the same since we moved in 3 years ago (yikes!). We entertain often and living on top floor of a third floor walkup, the views of Lincoln Square are stunning– but our space didn’t reflect the sites! Not to mention the seating was never enough of us, let alone all of our friends. That said, while we didn’t want to completely invest in a rehab, a minor facelift was in order. Whether you have a deck, patio, backyard or rooftop, here are my top five upgrades you can make before summer is in full swing!
… is everything. Especially when a small space (like ours) could potentially host up to 7 guests (its happened!). Maximize every square inch by DIYing your very own modular outdoor seating. Individual chairs can be cumbersome, but benches and couches that you can move around make for ample seating and socializing!
Living in an urban space can come with some tight outdoor quarters which can only cramp your storage space. There are, however, some amazingly creative ways to display and distract your outside essentials.
String lights are an obvious go-to (I still love them!) but try switching it up and creating a more intimate and architecturally interesting lighting display with these new tricks.
From plants to different color schemes, liven up your space with big design ideas to make your outdoor area a true extension of your indoors.
When it comes to making a space your own, adding special touches here and there that reflect all the things you love will truly make your deck, patio or porch come to life! And it will translate so well with your guests too.
What are some other ideas you’ve done to update your outdoor nooks? I’d love to hear about them!
Enjoy the weather!
